Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) End The Stigma protest, London, April 2023
Terrence Higgins was one of the first people in the United Kingdom to die of AIDS during the early days of the pandemic in the 1980s. The Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), a charity named in his memory, advocates for those who are living with HIV in the UK.
in April 2023, THT and similar organisations from all over the UK rallied in London to protest against the stigma that is still attached to HIV to this day. Whereas in the eighties, HIV and AIDS meant almost certain death, today those living with HIV rarely go on to develop AIDS. With effective treatment, an HIV+ person can live a long and healthy life, and can not pass on the virus to others.
These are the messages that this protest aimed to communicate to the public, and to government, loudly and clearly. The following gallery showcases a selection of photos from the day.
